The main goal of prophetic ministry

By November 16, 2016 No Comments

In January 2016 I sat down with my friend Will Hart to talk about prophetic ministry. We hit a bunch of topics, from personal style to politics. I decided to break down this video talk into a series of blogs. I hope you enjoy it!

The main goal of prophetic ministry

Ephesians 4:11 is a much quoted scripture when it comes to the importance of Prophetic ministry. “He (God) gave some…prophets.”
The end game for this ministry gift is unveiled in verse thirteen, “to reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining the whole measure of the fullness of  Christ“.
Woah! The goal of Prophetic ministry is not to prophesy, it is to reach full maturity and look like Jesus!  Fullness happens when we have communion with God (intimate knowledge) and community (relational connection) with others.
If the stated goal of God is to use Prophetic ministry to bring a mature expression of Jesus on the Earth then it makes sense that, for this to happen, we need mature Prophetic ministers.  How do you mature in the prophetic? This happens in personal relationship with God and inter-relationship with others.
Here are some steps to becoming a mature Prophetic voice:
1. Risk: If you want to see God do something new through you, you have to attempt something new. If you are not sure what steps to take to find your risk…follow a risk-taker.  Water-walking happens by watching someone who is a water-walker…then getting out of the boat yourself.
Repetition: I can’t say this enough
If you want to become good at something you have to do it a lot. Repetition creates confidence but it also breads creativity. When you feel comfortable doing something you can then begin to experiment with different ways of doing it.
3. Relationship:  Building relationships is investing in influence. Relationship allows you to be influenced and to be an influence. What you learn and become in relationship is what you will be able to transfer and reproduce in others.
4. Reproduction: Fruit is the measure of maturity and the greatest measure of fruitfulness is not in what you produce but what you re-produce.
You can grow in maturity today. Chose one of the above areas and ask God to move you to greater fullness. It is what you were created for.
